The theatrical square
The poster written in English by Ms Magda de Laurans informing us about the theatre workshops in our school appeared just next to the teacher's room in November.
The group of young people from first and second classes of our secondary school, who attended the first meeting, have been working together for about six months in the unchanged composition. We meet every Wednesday evening in the Centre of Education and Cultural Initiative or in our school.
In our work we use the techniques based on Grotowski and Stanisławski's tradition. That is why we always start from training. We learn how to control our own body, move swiftly and feel the space. We focus on physical activities as well as developing imagination and opening ourselves for new possibilities.
We also create individual actions and we are slowly getting into a habit of working on our body and mind.
But the main task we currently cope with are rehearsals of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" by Shakespeare. The script we work on is - Introducing Shakespeare "A Midsummer Night's Dream", modernised and slightly abridged version by Walter Saunders and Harvey Hallsmith. We do enjoy working with it as the students of English as the second language.
The play will be performed at school on 28th April and then three weeks later in the Centre of Education and Cultural Initiative in Olsztyn.
As time gets closer so do our rehearsals become more intensive. From February we have been meeting twice or even sometimes three times a week. I will only mention that many hilarious situations occur during the rehearsals, we've become better and better at forming the team and our work is progressing. The results will be visible soon.
We have also had a chance to find out how to make the theatre masks. They have been created in Dywity, in the Culture Centre. Some of them are really worth seeing.
Besides, we are planning a trip to Warsaw for the performance of P. Borowski and an exhibition of our masks at school.
WE ARE VERY THANKFULL TO:
Mr Walter Saunders thanks to whom we have been able to enjoy reading and working on Shakespeare and whose modernised and slightly abridged version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", we received, helped us much in our work on the performance.
Ms Aneta Fabisiak-Hill who helped us to create beautiful theatre masks
You can see us creating our masks:
Soon the photos and the film from our performance will also be available.
